Ringgit Ends Lower Against US Dollar

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 24 (Bernama) -- The ringgit closed lower Thursday against the US dollar, tracking the slide in some government bond prices following solid US economic data, a dealer said. At 6 pm, the local unit was traded at 4.4450/4550 against the greenback from 4.4400/4450 on Wednesday. The dealer said the solid US data revealed on Wednesday increased the possibility of a hike in US interest rates in December by the US Federal Reserve. It was reported that new orders for US manufactured capital goods rebounded in October on increasing demand for machinery and equipment. The US market will be closed on Thursday for the Thanksgiving holiday. Meanwhile, the ringgit was traded mixed against other major currencies. It went up against the Singapore dollar to 3.1093/1167 from 3.1136/1175 on Wednesday and rose against the yen to 3.9389/9481 from Wednesday's 3.9993/4.0049. The local note was higher against the euro at 4.6966/6094 from 4.7117/7175 on Wednesday, but declined against the British pound to 5.5354/5500 from 5.4945/5011 Wednesday. -- BERNAMA
