Thai government assures street foods remain

BANGKOK, May 12 (TNA) -- The government has assured again that street foods would remain in Thailand but vendors would be advised to keep their stalls clean and orderly. Deputy government spokesman Werachon Sukondhapatipak made the confirmation when 26 Italian graduate students inquired about the matter from him at Government House on May 11. The students from Gastronomic Sciences University visited Bangkok to inspect its street foods. On the occasion, Lt Gen Werachon told them that Bangkok was one of the world’s best sources of street foods and the government would only try to ensure its street foods were of quality and hygiene and their stalls were orderly. He said that the Italian students were concerned about international news reports that Thailand would terminate its street foods. Denying those reports, Lt Gen Werachon said the government only liked to see orderly and clean street food stalls and prevent them from blocking traffic. (TNA)
