Thailand affirms security measures for tourists
BANGKOK, Nov 17 (TNA) -- Thai Minister of Tourism and Sports Kobkarn Wattanavrangkul expressed confidence on the government's safety measures for tourists in Thailand after the recent terrorist attack in the French capital Paris last Friday, saying that the prime minister has ordered all security measures for tourists be beefed up but the move should not cause panic among visitors.
Ms Kobkarn told the press after today's weekly Cabinet meeting earlier today, that her ministry as been coordinating with local and tourist police, volunteers, as well as the business sector to not only ensure safety among tourists but also to help prevent them from being taken advantage of by crooked tour operators.
She said Prime Minister Gen Prayuth Chan-o-cha has reiterated that stricter security measures be implemented during the weekly Cabinet meeting today, though he stressed that they should not cause worries among visitors, adding that measures should also focus on tourism between neighbouring countries as well.
The minister noted that both the Ministry of Defense and Royal Thai Police would also strengthen their safety operations, particularly at crowded locations, expressing that she is extremely confidence in the country's security measures, though all operations must be carried out prudently to prevent any panics among tourists.
