Thailand launches online shopping campaign ahead of Valentine’s Day
BANGKOK, February 10 (TNA) - Together with several other relevant agencies, the Thai government, through the Ministry of Commerce, has launched the second round of Thailand Online Mega Sale 2015 campaign via a website, [www.thailandmegasale.com], with discounts of up to 80 per cent for buyers.
Vichai Pochanakit, Deputy Director-General of the ministry's Department of Business Development, told journalists on Tuesday that the second-round campaign has been launched after the first Thailand Online Mega Sale festival was successfully organized in late 2014, as consumers are now more interested in online shopping.
Vichai noted that the second-round online shopping campaign gathers products and shops relating to the upcoming Valentine’s Day.
According to the senior official, about 1,000 product items from all product categories are available, supplied by shops certified by his ministry; so, buyers can trust them.
Meanwhile, Thotchathat Nanthapakwong, a member of the Thai e-Commerce Association, said that online sales in Thailand have grown fast from their value of 3 billion baht in 2002 to 10 billion baht in 2014, especially through markets launched via the Line application, in which as many as 33 million people use in Thailand alone now.
Thotchathat reported that last year's Thailand Online Mega Sale lasted 16 days from December 15-30, gathering 474 shops and 2,417 product items available with discounts and recorded sales worth 30 million baht. (TNA)
