Thailand's leather fair expected to attract over 25,000 int'l visitors

BANGKOK, June 8 (TNA) - Thailand's public and private agencies will jointly organise a grand leather fair in Bangkok from June 19-28, 2015, which is expected to attract over 25,000 international visitors. Veera Lertruangpunyavut, Vice President of the Thai Leathergoods Association, told journalists that his association and the Ministry of Commerce's Department of International Trade Promotion, will organise the 10-day fair to showcase Thai quality leather and fashion products and to boost domestic sale and exports of the Thai products. Veera said that more than 200 Thai leather manufacturing firms will join the 10-day fair, during which over 20 million baht is expected to be spent by international visitors, anticipated to exceed the 25,000 benchmark. Veera acknowledged that overseas demand for Thai leather and fashion products has been on the rise since early this year, especially that in major markets, namely the United States, the European Union (EU) and Japan. The Thai Leathergoods Association's vice president pointed out that Thai fashion bags, shoes and accessories of mobile phones are particularly popular now on both the domestic and the world market, projecting that exports of Thai leather and fashion products should, thus, grow by over 4 per cent on average this year, earning the Kingdom nearly two billion US dollars. Thai Leathergoods Association's vice president called on the government to help produce more skilled personnel to serve the expanding Thai leather and fashion industry. (TNA)
