UK Fleet Commander discusses value of cooperation in Naval Defence at NAVDEX

Abu Dhabi, Feb 20, 2013 (WAM) - Vice Admiral Phillip A. Jones, Fleet Commander and Deputy Chief of Naval Staff, yesterday discussed the value of international cooperation in establishing robust naval defence platforms.
Delivering a keynote speech in the Naval Defence Exhibition's (NAVDEX) speakers series, the Admiral reflected on the history of partnership between the UAE and UK specifically, and the growing need for continued corporation in an evolving geopolitical and economic landscape.
Staff Lt. General Obaid Abdulla Al Ka'abi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Defence, Rear Admiral Ibrahim Al Musharrakh, Commander of UAE Naval Forces, and a number of UAE Armed Forces officers, international military delegations and dignitaries.
"For a country that imports much of the food and energy we consume, the security of our seas cannot be overlooked," said Vice Admiral Jones. "When 70% of the globe is beyond national boundaries, no nation can achieve its aims and meet the needs of its national security acting in isolation Not only does maritime cooperation make us safer, but it allows us to get the most out of the assets that we have." - Emirates News Agency, WAM
