US' Commitment To Bilateral Ties With Malaysia Is Strong - Diplomat

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 10 (Bernama) -- The US administration's commitment to bilateral relations with Malaysia is very strong, reflecting the interest and aspirations of the people of both countries, the US Embassy here said. Mission deputy chief Edgard Kagan gives an assurance that relations between the both countries would not change despite the outcome of the US presidential election. “Our long standing interest on peace and prosperity in Asia is not going to change,” he said at the US embassy election watch event here Wednesday. Republican's Donald Trump clinched victory over Democrat's Hillary Clinton after long, bitter and divisive election campaign to become the 45th US president. Kagan said the election had been in good spirit and had taken place peacefully, allowing Americans to vote and express their views. “We will have to see what policy the new president would announce,” he said. However, he is confident of continuity in the policy of welcoming foreigners to the US. “We are confident that the US would continue to be a good destination for people to visit,” he said. -– BERNAMA
