168 Films to Participate in the 8th Aljazeera Documentary Film Festival

Doha, April 04 (QNA) - Some168 films will be participating in the 8th Aljazeera International Documentary Film Festival (IDFF) that will kick off here from 19 -22 April, at the Doha Sheraton Hotel. Of the films, 46 are short featured documentaries, 66 mid-length and 28 long featured ones, in addition to 19 films of the "New horizon films" genre, and 9 of the "Promising films" genre. A total of 18 TV stations will be participating at the festival with some 23 films. The 8th IDFF's Jury Committee will include 15 members from China, Iran, Cuba, Iraq, Russia, Egypt, Italy, Spain, Germany, Norway, Sweden, Greece, Poland and Turkey. The festival's debut was on the 18th of April 2005 under the name of "Al Jazeera Television Production Festival" including the work of 14 Arab countries varying between documentaries, social and news programs. Being a successful premiere in its first edition, the festival received a huge number of participation requests to its second edition from Arab and Foreign countries. The third edition added three films categories (long, short, and mid - length) to its competitions as well as adding the "New Horizon” film category for new inspiring filmmakers and talented students. Sponsors provided a special award at the fourth edition to promote works addressing particular issues namely, family and children issues, the Palestinian issue and freedom and human rights issues. The Sixth edition offered a number of films in public which successfully appealed to them. In its seventh edition, the IDFF continued its message discussing film industry - related issues, challenges facing them and ways of improvement. (QNA)
