Katara Holds 2nd Traditional Dhow Festival from 13 November

Doha, November 06 (QNA) - The Cultural Village Foundation (Katara) will organize the 2nd Traditional Dhow Festival from 13 November with the purpose of upholding maritime heritage. The five-day event includes activities such as Dhow show, Village and exhibitions, Traditional performers, School visits and activities, Live dhow building, Cruising, Light and fireworks show, Pearl diving, Rowing competition and Kids workshop. "For hundreds of years fishermen, pearl-divers, and traders from Africa to India relied on the dhow for their livelihood. Now, 1300 years later, we celebrate what has become one of the most striking symbols of our heritage," Katara said in its monthly newsletter, adding that participants will discover the story of the dhow at Katara where scores of boats from across the region will converge along the beachfront. The rowing competition will be held in Katara. Each team will be made up of ten (only male) members. Prizes will be as follows: first prize QR80,000, second QR 50,000, third QR40,000, fourth QR30,000 and fifth QR20,000; QR10,000 will be awarded to those that place from 6th to 10th place. (QNA)
