Malaysia's Local Film Producers Must Produce Quality Movies To Capture Global Market

PETALING JAYA (Selangor, Malaysia), March 12 (Bernama) -- Local film producers, especially those producing local Tamil movies, must emphasise on quality so as to be on par with films from other countries in order to penetrate the international market. Deputy Minister of Information, Communications and Culture Maglin Dennis D'Cruz said by improving the quality of local films and dramas, they can attract the attention of international viewers. "We are taking every step to help the local Tamil film industry to penetrate the international market like India and now Canada which has about 1.2 million Indians," he told reporters after launching a local Tamil movie here, Monday. He said thus far about 80 local films that were produced in various languages had been marketed abroad, a move that has enabled local film makers to spread our culture, tradition and language globally. "This local Tamil film 'Ops Kossa Dappa 3' is able to introduce the many types of culture to people abroad because it has an array of stars from different races and background. A number of scenes also promote Bahasa Malaysia (Malaysia's official language)," he said. He added that quality local films would also be able to reduce the dependence on foreign films. --BERNAMA
