MediaCorp, NHB Jointly Organise TV50 Festival In Singapore
SINGAPORE, Oct 16 (Bernama) -- In celebration of 50 years of television
broadcasting in Singapore, MediaCorp and the National Heritage Board will
jointly organise the festival, 50 Years of TV: Experience the Magic to be held
at the National Museum of Singapore from Nov 23 to Dec 21, 2013.
The month-long festival coupled with star-studded events and activities
will be an experiential showcase of how television has played an integral part
in nation building and how it has shaped Singapore's popular culture, said
MediaCorp and NLB in a joint statement.
Specially-curated interactive exhibits will feature the evolution of
Singapore television production and provide a peek into the future of TV.
There will also be a showcase titled 50 Years of Television: An Exhibition
which celebrates the various milestones of the television, both as a product and
lifestyle medium in Singapore from 1963 to today.
MediaCorp’s chief executive officer, Shaun Seow said: “For 50 years,
MediaCorp television has held up a mirror to Singapore life, reflecting social
mores, culture... and sometimes even helping to shape them."
He said the half century mark is an important milestone, and what better way
to celebrate it than through a public exhibition of broadcasting's history and
achievements.
"I'm happy to have MediaCorp partner the National Heritage Board to present
TV50 exhibition, which we think will be well worth your while to visit this year
end. No doubt, it will entertain, as with many things to do with TV. But it may
also set you in a contemplative mood, thinking of TV -- and Singapore's -- past
50 years and the next," he said in a statement released by MediaCorp.
National Heritage Board’s CEO, Rosa Daniel, said: “From early beginnings 50
years ago to the present, Singaporeans over many generations have seen TV
offerings evolve into today’s well-loved local productions and international
programmes. TV has also preserved for posterity the memorable events and moments
in Singapore’s journey as a nation.
"This year marks the 20th anniversary of the National Heritage Board and we
are happy to celebrate the two milestones through this meaningful project. This
exhibition will offer something for everyone," she said.
