World Youth Jazz Festival 2017 Starts This Friday

KUALA LUMPUR, May 2 (Bernama) -- The World Youth Jazz Festival (WYJF) 2017 is set to mesmerise city folks and tourists when it kicks off on May 5 at TREC Kuala Lumpur, here. Themed, ‘Be Youthful’, the three-day event takes place from Friday to Sunday, starting from 6pm until 12.00am and is open to all ages for free. According to WYJF founder, Nik A. Azmi, more than 15,000 local and foreign visitors are expected to attend the sixth edition of the festival. "World renown jazz pianist Boy Katinding and his Jazz Collective from Philippines, the adventurous Cuban-Cape Verde flavoured CaboCuba Jazz from Netherlands and keyboard sifu and songwriter Emiko C from United States of America are among the performers. "Various programmes and workshops organised at selected locations leading up to the main event this weekend will see 15 different international and local acts from nine countries taking centre stage," he told Bernama Tuesday. He said the initiatives were created to expand the jazz circle among the younger generation particularly music lovers through fresh and exciting programmes. WYJF Management, Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur and TREC are among the organisations supporting the festival this year. -- BERNAMA
