UNSC Must Take Strong Action Against ISIL: ˈIran Dailyˈ

Tehran, Sept 6, IRNA - ˈIran Dailyˈ on Saturday urged the UN Security Council to take strong action against the ISIL terrorist group and pave way for establishing an international alliance against the group that has been violating international laws by committing brutal violence and ethnic cleansing in the region. Growing crimes committed by ISIL terrorist group in the region and its atrocities against the people of Iraq and Syria have made many countries anxious and led to greater international activities against the Takfiri militants, added the English-language paper in its Opinion column. The terrorist group had used the wave of dissatisfaction among Sunni groups to expand its aggression against Iraqis and Syrians and establish the so-called caliphate in occupied lands. The specific objective of the group, according to its leaders, is to fight the Shias in the region and then expand this fight to other ethnic groups in other parts of the world. ISIL terrorists have been commiting brutalities in the above-stated countries, including mass execution of civilians and security forces. It also committed ethnic cleansing and threatened all communities, including Shias, Kurds, Christians, Yazidis and even Sunnis during their advances in Syria and Iraq, condemned the daily. Today ISIL is presenting itself a “leading jihadi group” in the world, and are operating in an area of 700,000 sq.kms, by using advanced weapons, petrodollars and media networks to achieve its long-term goals. This is while the terrorist group is drawing new recruits from Western countries every day and when it enters a city, it starts enforcing its harsh laws. This chaotic situation in the region and ISIL’s barbaric acts against the people are fomenting the global Islamophobia that surged following the 9/11 attacks by Al-Qaeda. A recent poll in Germany confirmed this, noted the paper. It seems that the creation of ISIL in the Middle East forced certain world powers to change their approach toward the terrorist groups and region. The US and its allies, which often use extremist groups including Al-Qaeda to implement their policies in the world, now are calling for a global alliance against the group because the ISIL has turned against them. Reducing the pressure on the government of President Bashar al-Assad, who warned against the risk of terrorism in the Middle East, is one of the consequences of ISIL advance in the region. The threat of ISIL also is increasing convergence among Iraqi groups and now the establishment of security and the fight against terrorism are the top priorities of Iraqi leaders. The change in the Iraqi government’s policies and efforts by Iraqi politicians to form a unity government is another outcome of the presence of terrorists. Therefore, the emergence of ISIL is helping the creation of new regional and international alliances against terrorism and extremism in the region and turning domestic differences and separatist movements into convergence for fighting bigger threats facing the region. It is a fact that blocking the flow of money and arms to the terrorists and ending military training to them in Iraq and Syria are the only ways to fight terrorism and extremism, suggested the paper in conclusion.
