3rd Annual Conference of Visual Arts Discusses Future of Museums
Doha, April 27 (QNA) - Arab Museum for Modern Art, Mathaf, and Doha Institute for Graduate Studies have discussed the Future Museum in the Future City in the 3rd Annual Conference of Visual Arts, during the first session, which started Monday evening through visual communication technology, the implications of the current pandemic on the futures of museums and cities were discussed with the participation of a group of artists, researchers, museum employees, and curators from different countries around the world.
The conference discussed the impact of the pandemic on cultural production fields and the different roles of the city and the museum, in addition to reviewing several open future scenarios that stimulate the process of critical thinking.
On the first day, the participants presented two sessions, one of them was "Critical reading of the urban formative forces of the plagued city," which included a set of working papers. While the second session was about the topic "A critical reading of the history of the modern museum in light of the current transformations."
The conference will conclude its activities on Wednesday, where it discusses a number of topics, including the possibilities of visualizing the new biopolitical regime(s), and the ways of resisting it, the crisis of art schools, the future of the museum in the future city: a look beyond Humanitarianism, and the role of the pandemic in pushing artists to engage in new forms in unresolved social issues.
