Adrian's Killer Should Be Punished Accordingly - Ambassador
JAKARTA, Nov 10 (Bernama) -- The criminal who brutally murdered Malaysian
student Adrian Jay Pereira should be brought to justice and punished
accordingly, said Malaysian ambassador to Indonesia Syed Munshe
Afdzaruddin Syed Hassan.
He said the Malaysian embassy here would monitor further developments of
the murder case which had raised concern among Malaysian students and citizens
in Indonesia.
"We will continue to monitor and wait for further action from the
Indonesian authorities. The death of the Malaysian student is a crime that
calls for appropriate justice," he said, here, Wednesday.
He was commenting on the tragic death of Adrian, 23, a student at the
Medical Faculty of Universiti Brawijaya in Malang, East Java, who was killed on
Monday night outside his rented house in Malang while trying to stop a thief
from stealing his motorcycle.
Syed Munshe Afdzaruddin advised Malaysian students in Indonesia to focus
on their safety while in this country and they should always communicate with
their fellow citizens and trusted local friends.
He said social networking with student associations was also important
for them to exchange information and to share problems.
"Don't go out to unfamiliar places. If you need to go there, bring along
close friends from Malaysia or Indonesia.
"If there is a safety problem, don't hesitate to call the authorities or
embassy. We are always ready to help," he said.
A total of 6,184 Malaysian students are studying at Indonesia's higher
learning institutions.
