Al-Raya Lauds Qatari Efforts to Improve Human Rights Situation

Doha, February 20 (QNA) - In its editorial on Sunday, Al-Raya newspaper hailed the great efforts made by the State of Qatar at the local and global levels to promote respect for human rights and equality for all, and to ensure justice for victims of racial discrimination.
The newspaper stressed that Qatar is harnessing all potentials to promote the values of tolerance and equality among all, regardless of race, gender and color, and is making great efforts in improving human rights conditions, as Doha has made great strides in this regard, through the implementation of Qatar National Vision 2030 and related strategies based on justice, transparency and respect for human rights.
In this regard, the newspaper pointed out that HE Chairperson of the National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) Maryam bint Abdullah Al Attiyah affirmed during her meetings yesterday with a number of representatives and officials in the European Parliament and the European Union, that the State of Qatar is continuing its efforts to remain a good model in the region with regard to respecting and promoting workers rights in general, and that the gradual reform process is the most successful strategy to overcome challenges.
HE the Chairperson, the paper said, also invited the Chair of European Parliament Subcommittee to visit Doha to learn about the legislative developments and their outcome for the protection and preservation of human rights, stressing that Doha has received European praise for its peace efforts and its support for democracy and protection of the Afghan citizens; in addition to the great strides made by the State in the field of workers' rights, in terms of security, safety and protection of their rights
The newspaper indicated that the Constitution of the State of Qatar guarantees equality of all before the law, noting that Qatar is proud to host more than one million people of different races, religions and societies, who live in harmony with the Qatari people according to the values and traditions that our society is known for, and which are enshrined in national legislations. In addition, Qatar is adherence to all international human rights instruments, including international conventions related to combating racism, racial discrimination and xenophobia, the paper said.
The newspaper added that the culmination of this pioneering role was the election of Qatar to membership in the Human Rights Council, for a period of three years, starting on Jan. 1, 2022., in recognition of its honorable record in protecting human rights, supporting initiatives to bring peace in the world, and supporting mediation and dialogue between countries to resolve conflicts, as Qatar considers the preservation and protection of human rights among the strategic pillars of its foreign policy, and an essential factor for achieving prosperity and peace.
Al-Raya concluded its editorial by saying that Qatar considers upholding human rights values as a moral obligation that it does not waive, regardless of circumstances, and has stood against all manifestations of human rights abuse around the world. (QNA)
