Bahrain elected ITU Council member for 2023-2026

Bucharest, Oct. 3 (BNA): The Kingdom of Bahrain has been elected as a member of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Council for the 2023-2026 session. Bahrain will be one of the representatives of ​Asia and Australasia (Region E), including 13 seats, at the 48-member ITU Council. On the occasion, Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications, Mohammed bin Thamer Al-Kaabi, extended sincere congratulations to His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, noting that their constant support has enabled the kingdom to win ITU Council membership. He indicated that the vote for Bahrain reflects the International Community's confidence in its pioneering role, noting that the kingdom will contribute to enhancing ITU work in the ICT fields. ITU Council serves as ITU's governing body between sessions of the Plenipotentiary Conference, the supreme governing body convened every four years to set ITU's strategic direction and budget plans. The Council oversees ITU activities, policies and strategies, manages working groups on topics specified by the Plenipotentiary or the Council, and prepares draft ITU strategic and financial plans for presentation to the next Plenipotentiary.
