BERJAYA AIR RESUMES FLIGHT SERVICES TO PANGKOR ISLAND

PANGKOR (Malaysia), Nov 17 (Bernama) -- Berjaya Air Sdn Bhd has announced the resumption of services to Pangkor Island, with three flights weekly via Subang Airport, commencing Nov 25. Its Director Azlan Meah Ahmad Meah said the company had committed to resuming the flights to Pangkor Island after an 18-month service delay, due to the impact of the 2009 global economic crisis. "We see the need to mobilise manpower and expertise to contribute to the development of tourism facilities on Pangkor Island," he told reporters after the ceremony to reactivate scheduled flight services here Thursday. Azlan Meah said at present, Berjaya Air operated its services with three units of the 48 seater Dash 7 aircraft and two units of the 72 seater ATR72-500, designed for short runways. He said the company has also added Langkawi Island to its list of destinations, with operations officially commencing Friday, and a frequency of four flights weekly. "The company is looking to expand its service to Thailand and Indonesia. "We are looking at more routes, maybe to include Thailand and Indonesia, but that is still in the planning stage. We cannot commit to anything at the moment. "We are also not a big player in the industry but can grow. It is just a matter of the right time and demand," he added. Berjaya Air which is based at the Sky Park Terminal, Subang Airport, also offers flights from Subang to Redang Island, Tioman Island and Koh Samui in Thailand. It has also direct flights linking Singapore to Tioman and Redang. Apart from providing flight services, Berjaya Air works closely with hotels and resorts to offer attractive holiday packages. -- BERNAMA
