Cook, Student Plead Not Guilty To Terrorism-Related Charges

KUALA LUMPUR, April 27 (Bernama) – A cook and a student pleaded not guilty in separate High Courts here today to terrorism-related charges. In the court before Judge Nordin Hassan, Rosmizam Che Din, 29, who is a cook, pleaded not guilty to charges with soliciting for support for the Daesh terrorist group through a telegram application and for giving support to the commission of a terrorist act involving the use of explosives. The act was intended to further an ideology and could be regarded as intending to threaten public order in Malaysia. The offences were allegedly committed at No 73, Jalan USJ 6/3B, Subang Jaya, Selangor, between March 25 and June 29, 2016. The charges were made under Section 130J (1)(a) and Section 130J (1)(b) of the Penal Code which provide an imprisonment for life or imprisonment for a term not exceeding 30 years, or with fine, and shall also be liable to forfeiture of any property used in connection with the commission of the offence. The court set June 1 for mention to enable Rosmizam to appoint a lawyer. In the court before Judicial Commissioner Ab Karim Ab Rahman, student .Hasrianto Matan, 21, was charged with three counts of providing money, involving RM300, through three transactions into a Maybank account belonging to one Bukhori Che Noor with the knowledge that it would be spent, in whole or part, to carry out terrorist act. He was alleged to have made the transactions at the USJ Subang branch of the Maybank, Selangor, at 5.46 pm on April 4, 2016, 9.15 pm on May 1, 2016 and 10.32 am on June 5, 2016, respectively. The charges, under Section 130N(b) of the Penal Code, provide an imprisonment for up to 30 years and is liable to fine, and also forfeiture of forfeiture of any property used in connection with the commission of the offence, if found guilty. The court set May 26 for mention. Deputy public prosecutor Azlina Rasdi prosecuted, while Hasrianto was represented by lawyer Farida Mohammad -- BERNAMA
