Cooperation between Bahrain and WTO discussed

Bali, Sept. 26 (BNA): Tourism Minister, Fatima bint Jaffar Al-Sairafi, has affirmed Bahrain’s keenness to enhance cooperation with the World Tourism Organisation (WTO) in a way that contributes to consolidating tourism infrastructure, in light of the ongoing strategies in support of international efforts aimed at accelerating the recovery of the tourism and travel sector around the world after the COVID-19 pandemic. This growth will provide more opportunities for international cooperation, employment and economic development, she said. The minister made the statements while meeting here today WTO Secretary-General, Zurab Pololikashvili, on the sidelines of her participation in the World Tourism Day currently being held on the island of Bali, Indonesia. Minister Al-Sairafi highlighted the importance of developing a joint framework between the Kingdom WTO to pave the way for the exchange of best experiences and practices related to the tourism industry, especially in terms of sustainability, as well as the use of modern technologies and digital transformation. The two sides agreed to provide practical training for the citizens working in the tourism sector in WTO’s regional office and its main office in Madrid, Spain. They also agreed to strengthen joint action, in line with the slogan “Rethinking Tourism”, the theme of this year's World Tourism Day.
