Coordination Pact: Sarawak And West Kalimantan To Strengthen Border Security

KUCHING (Sarawak, Malaysia) April 14 (Bernama) -- Core issues related to border security and eradication of crimes are among those discussed comprehensively at a meeting between Sarawak police and its West Kalimantan counterpart here. Sarawak Police Commissioner Mazlan Mansor said the bilateral talks between both parties hoped to produce clear and efficient result to be used as shared guidance in efforts to curb criminal activities especially at the border. He believed the meeting would be able to produce good holistic result with one goal to achieve consensus and cooperation in solving various issues. He said among the issues discussed were those related to illegal immigrants, trespassing, vehicle thefts and robberies across the border, ICQ (Immigration, Customs, Quarantine) Complex damaged fences in Tebedu / Entikong, information sharing and so on. "Hopefully, these things can be discussed and refined in detail and further serve as a guide to be shared by both sides," he told reporters at the 11th Coordination Pact Meeting Certification book signing ceremony at the Sarawak Police Contingent Headquarters Officers' Mess here Thursday. Earlier, Mazlan, who represented the Sarawak police, signed the pact while West Kalimantan police was represented by its chief Drs Musyafak. Speaking to reporters on the sideline, Mazlan said that crime eradication efforts not only centered on security alone, but it also covered issues related to the economy of two countries. He said cooperation between the two authorities expected to deliver clear signal to criminals in both sides of the border, to warn them against committing crimes indiscriminately in the area. According to him, the authorities in both countries now have strategy and organised clear planning in an effort to curb crimes effectively, especially at the border. -- BERNAMA
