Dehkhoda Dictionary In Urdu Language Unveiled In Pakistan

Tehran, May 20, IRNA – The first volume of Dehkhoda Encyclopedic Dictionary of Persian Language which has been translated into Urdu language was unveiled in a ceremony in the Persian department of Lahore College in Pakistan on Tuesday. Dehkhoda Dictionary is the largest lexical compilation of the Persian language wrote in over forty-five years by Ali-Akbar Dehkhoda, a prominent Iranian linguist, and a cadre of other experts. The book has been translated in Urdu by the honorary professor of Persian language Zahir Ahmad Sadighi and with the collaboration of Iranˈs House of Culture in Pakistan. The unveiling ceremony was attended by a number of senior Iranian officials and Pakistani professors of Persian Language. According to a number of leading figures in science and literature, the Dehkhoda Dictionary is considered as the most important scientific work after the Persian epic book of ˈShahnamehˈ. The encyclopedic dictionary is the largest comprehensive Persian dictionary ever published, comprising 16 volumes (more than 27000 pages)./end
