EXXONMOBIL IMPRESSED WITH MALAYSIANS' WORK ETHICS
KUALA TERENGGANU (Malaysia), Jan 27 (Bernama) -- World petroleum company,
ExxonMobil is impressed with the work culture in Malaysia, describing the
workers here as positive, highly skilled and always keen to learn.
The chairman of ExxonMobil Subsidiaries in Malaysia Hugh W. Thompson said
the workforce in this country actually had the characteristics of global-level
workers.
"That is why many ExxonMobil employees in Malaysia are now working abroad
like in Nigeria, Angola, Qatar, Australia and the United States. They are proof
of Malaysia Boleh" (Malaysia Can Do It)
He said this in his speech at a dinner and presentation of awards to
outstanding teachers which was officiated by State Education, Higher Education,
Science, Technology and Human Resource Committee chairman, Ahmad Razif Abdul
Rahman, here, Wednesday night.
Twenty-five outstanding teachers in east coast state of Terengganu were
chosen to receive the cash of RM1,500 (US$484) and a certificate each from
ExxonMobil. This award programme by the company started in 2007.
Thompson said at ExxonMobil, its main asset was its employees and the
company was proud that in this country, 97 per cent of them were Malaysians, out
of whom 225 or 10.5 per cent were from Terengganu.
"They have not only contributed to ExxonMobil's success but to Malaysia's
success as well," he said, adding that ExxonMobil had been operating in
Terengganu for over 30 years now in the oil and gas industry.
"This industry is the pulse of the nation and ExxonMobil is proud to be
Malaysia's development partner towards achieving Vision 2020."
Thompson said ExxonMobil always strived to be a responsible and caring
corporate citizen by carrying out community programmes.
"I am happy that these programmes have been going on smoothly and have
benefited many in Terengganu," he added.
