Five Thai nationals among injured victims of SKorea’s 100 car pile-up
SEOUL, February 11 (TNA) - The Thai Embassy to South Korea has urgently assisted five Thai nationals who were injured in a massive-vehicle collision on a bridge near the Incheon International Airport on Wednesday.
Officials at the embassy confirmed that the five Thai nationals were among the victims of the pileup, involving some 100 vehicles in Incheon.
The Thai victims are members of a private delegation of the state-run Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) in Seoul, South Korea's capital, and they were in the same vehicle, the Thai Embassy's officials said, noting that all of them were sent to a nearby hospital for treatment, while the South Korean driver of their car was killed from the accident.
According to the Thai Embassy's officials, one of the injured Thais was in an intensive care unit (ICU) and another underwent an operation at the hospital, while Thai Ambassador to South Korea Kulkumut Singhara Na Ayudhaya has closely followed up updates and has assigned embassy officials to contact the injured Thai nationals.
The tragic accident took place when the five Thai citizens were traveling from the Incheon International Airport to Seoul.
According to South Korea's Yonhap News Agency, the collision took place at 9:34am (local time) amid thick fog and low visibility, leaving two people dead and more than 60 others injured.
The Yonhap report quoted Incheon police as saying that a taxi in the first lane bumped another taxi in front of it into the second lane and an airport limousine bus then ran into the second taxi, causing the mass collision of vehicles. (TNA)
