Good Sleep, Joint Exercise Key to Happy Marriage: Survey

Tokyo, Nov. 21 (Jiji Press)--Sleeping separately and exercising together are the keys to good marital relations, a private Japanese survey has revealed. The survey was conducted online on 876 people by docomo Healthcare Inc. between August and October. The result was released ahead of Thursday, designated in Japan as the commemoration day for good married couples. The survey found that 35.9 pct of respondents sleep in the same bed with their spouses, of which 29.1 pct answered that they feel stressed. On the primary reason for sleeping in separate beds, 24.8 pct cited different rhythms of daily lives, followed by 21.1 pct who do so after a baby was born and 10.6 pct who find snoring of their spouses too noisy. The proportion of deep sleep during sleeping hours stood at 33.2 pct for those who sleep in the same bed, 34.9 pct for those who sleep separately from the beginning of their marriage lives, and 36.1 pct who switched to sleeping separately later. Meanwhile, 23.2 pct of respondents do physical exercises together with their spouses. On reasons, 28.7 pct said they enjoy doing so, followed by 22.6 pct who want to facilitate communications and 19.4 pct who find the habit as uplifting. Asked whether exercising together has improved their marital relations, 61.5 pct said they believe so and 0.5 pct answered the opposite. For 38.0 pct, their relations remained unchanged. END
