Holy Month of Ramadan In India Begins Saturday

New Delhi, July 21, IRNA -- The holy month of Ramadan in India begins from Saturday, 21st July.
Maulana Dr. Mufti M. Mukarram Ahmed, Friday Prayers leader of the “Shahi Fatehpuri Mosque” in Delhi, made the announcement Friday night that the new moon had been sighted and the fasting month of Ramadan across India will start from Saturday.
Muslims around the globe observe fasting (abstain from food and water from sunrise to sunset) and offer special prayers during the month to rededicate themselves to the Allah Almighty.
The month-long fasting will culminate in the Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations next month.
Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar.
Meanwhile, the Delhi government Friday directed all the three power distribution companies of the national capital to ensure round-the-clock electricity supply in the minority-dominated areas of the city in view of the ensuing Ramadan.
Power Minister Harun Yusuf issued the direction at a meeting he had with CEOs of BSES Yamuna Power Ltd, BSES Rajdhani Power Ltd and Tata Power Delhi Distribution Ltd, pti reported. 'Instructions were issued to ensure uninterrupted supply of power during the course of Ramadan,' Yusuf said.
