Houthi attacks pose 'serious threat' to region: Kuwait
Saudi-led Coalition says it intercepted 9 armed drones belonging to Houthi group since last Sunday
KUWAIT CITY
Kuwait said on Friday the attacks on Saudi Arabia by Yemen’s Houthi group pose a serious threat to the region's security.
"Houthi's continued attacks on Saudi Arabia pose a serious threat to the Kingdom's security and the region's stability," the Kuwaiti Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
Since last Sunday, the Saudi-led Arab Coalition in Yemen said, it intercepted nine armed drones belonging to the Houthi group.
"Continuing such terrorist acts and insisting on them represents [...] blatant violation of the International law and the international humanitarian law and undermines international efforts to a political settlement to end the ongoing conflict [in Yemen]," the statement said.
It also called on the international community and the UN Security Council to fulfill their duties in preserving peace and security.
On late Thursday, the Saudi news agency (SPA) reported Saudi Arabia informed the UN Security Council in a letter that it will take all necessary measures to preserve and protect its territories.
The Iranian-aligned Houthi group has repeatedly announced rocket and drone attacks on Saudi territories in response to what they call the Saudi-led assault on Yemen.
Yemen has been beset by violence and chaos since 2014, when Houthi rebels overran much of the country, including the capital Sanaa. The crisis escalated in 2015 when the Saudi-led coalition launched a devastating air campaign aimed at rolling back Houthi territorial gains.
