Ilango Made Positive Contributions To Excellent State Of Singapore-Malaysia Relations

By Massita Ahmad SINGAPORE, April 27 (Bernama) – “Dato Ilango’s tour in Singapore may have been short but he has made positive contributions to the excellent state of Singapore-Malaysia relations,” says Singapore Minister for Foreign Affairs, Dr Vivian Balakrishnan. “I wish him all the best and look forward to working with the next high commissioner to keep up the positive bilateral ties,” he said on his Facebook page after hosting a farewell lunch for Malaysian High Commissioner to Singapore, Ilango Karuppannan recently (April 11). Bernama was made to understand that Ilango who was appointed as Malaysia’s High Commissioner to Singapore a year ago will be back to the Malaysian Foreign Ministry to take up a new position. On April 25, the High Commission of Malaysia in Singapore had a farewell reception for Ilango at Rumah Malaysia, Gallop Park Road here. .It was attended by, among others, ASEAN ambassadors, dialogue partners, associates from business chambers and Singapore government agencies. Ilango, who joined the Malaysian Foreign Ministry in 1988, was the Undersecretary of the Europe Division in the ministry from 2014, prior to his appointment as Malaysia’s High Commissioner to Singapore. He had served as the Malaysian Ambassador to Lebanon from 2010 to 2014, Minister Counsellor at the Embassy of Malaysia in Washington D.C. from 2006 to 2010 and Charge d’Affaires at the Embassy of Malaysia in Conakry, Guinea, from 1997 to 2001. Ilango, who presented his credentials to Singapore President Tony Tan Keng Yam at the Istana on April 28, 2016, had also served as First Secretary at the Embassy of Malaysia in Bonn, Germany, from 1994 to 1997. During his tenure here, Ilango had organised special briefings, aiming to provide the audience with insight information and the right perspective, among others, on Malaysia’s current economic climate. The special briefings were conducted due to the positive feedback received from the audience where they requested similar briefings could be held frequently at the high commission in the future. -- BERNAMA ]
