India and Pakistan Renew Pact on Nuclear Arms Safety
NEW DELHI, Feb 22 (Bernama) -- India and Pakistan have renewed their agreement on nuclear weapons safety for another five years until 2022.
The agreement provides for immediate exchange of information between the two countries in the event of any accident involving nuclear weapons, thus minimising the risk of a conflict and radioactive fallout.
The protocol first came into force in 2007 and was subsequently extended for five years in 2012. It was due to expire on Feb 20, 2017.
The Indian and Pakistani foreign ministries announced that both countries have agreed to extend the agreement for another five years.
