India, Russia to boost cooperation in information sector - minister

NEW DELHI, March 25. /TASS/. India and Russia plan to step up cooperation in the information and broadcasting sectors, India’s Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore told reporters on Wednesday. After talks with Russian Minister of Telecom and Mass Communication Nikolai Nikiforov, who has arrived in New Delhi on a two-day working visit, Rathore said the sides agreed to "strengthen bilateral ties in the information and broadcasting sector, encourage exchanges between state and private mass media, and also cooperate in social networks." "Russia and India could benefit from the cooperation in the Internet space, television and social networks," the minister said, also adding that it is a good idea to organize trips as part of exchange programs for media personnel and students of television and cinema institutes. The minister said at the Russian side’s proposal, on the sidelines of the BRICS summit (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa) in Ufa in July the issue of coordinating efforts of the five member-states in the information and broadcasting sectors will be actively discussed.
