India Working On Dates For PM Najib's Visit

By Shakir Husain NEW DELHI, Feb 3 (Bernama) -- India and Malaysia are working on the dates for Prime Minister Najib Razak's visit to New Delhi, an Indian official said. "We are working on the dates," Preeti Saran, a senior Ministry of External Affairs official, told Bernama on the sidelines of a seminar in New Delhi on Thursday when asked about Najib's likely India visit. Saran, whose responsibilities at the ministry include ASEAN affairs, gave no further details. When Najib and his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi met at the East Asia Summit in Myanmar in 2014, they extended invitations to each other for official visits. The Indian prime minister undertook a visit to Malaysia in November 2015. Malaysia and India have developed close relations as New Delhi seeks greater engagement with Southeast Asia as part of Modi's 'Act East' doctrine. Bilateral trade in 2015 amounted to US$12 billion, accounting for 3.2 per cent of Malaysia's total external trade. -- BERNAMA
