Iran, engine of materializing NAM aspiration: MP

Tehran, Aug 31, IRNA – A senior parliamentarian said here Friday that Iran would be the engine of materializing goals and aspirations of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM). Chairman of Majlis (Parliament) National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Alaeddin Boroujerdi made the remarks commenting on the statements made Thursday by the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Ali Khamenei during the inaugural ceremony of the 16th NAM Summit. The Supreme Leader reminded NAM members of the body's potentials to accomplish its aspirations which are independence, solidarity and anti-colonialism as well as not being dependent on big powers. Given great capacity of NAM, the body could play a more active role at the present crucial juncture where the world is heading towards a new world order, Boroujerdi said. Referring to Iran's presidency over the NAM for the next three years, the MP said during its NAM term, Iran has to fight against the oppressive structure dominating the international relations system. Iran received NAM's rotating presidency from Egypt for the next three years.
