Iraq, Ireland Discuss Regional Issues, Including Negotiations On The Iranian Nuclear Program And Peace In Yemen

Baghdad / NINA / - Iraq and Ireland discussed regional issues, including the negotiations of the Iranian nuclear program and the peace negotiations in Yemen. A statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that in the context of strengthening relations between the two countries, Ambassador Muhammad Jaafar al-Sadr received a phone call from Simon Coveney, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Defense of the Republic of Ireland. During the call, a number of issues of common interest were discussed, including regional issues, especially negotiations on the Iranian nuclear program and peace negotiations in Yemen. The ambassador reviewed the latest political developments in Iraq and the efforts to form the new Iraqi government, stressing that the new government must gain the confidence of the House of Representatives in accordance with democratic principles and constitutional frameworks. For his part, the Irish minister praised the important role that Iraq plays in easing tensions in the region, and that the fruits of Iraq's efforts will have positive effects on the entire international community. Coveney expressed his hope to reach a comprehensive agreement in Vienna regarding the Iranian nuclear agreement, noting that he had contacted the Iranian Foreign Minister on the 3rd of this month to put the final touches in this regard. The ambassador welcomed the efforts of the Republic of Ireland to end the crisis in Yemen, which is experiencing a humanitarian crisis, as well as the ongoing negotiations on the Iranian nuclear program, stressing at the same time the depth of the distinguished relations between Iraq and Ireland and the keenness to strengthen and develop them in various fields. / End
