Islam’s fasting month of Ramadan began

Almaty, August 22, 2009 (Khabar) - Muslims from all over the world are celebrating the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan. This year, it will last until the 19th of September. Throughout th this time, religious people keep the Oraza fast from dawn until sunset. Muslims will have to refrain from eating, drinking water and spirits, and smoking. The fast can be observed by girls over 9 years and boys over 12 years of age. An exception is made for people with poor health and pregnant women. Oraza is one of the five pillars of Islam and it has a fundamental place in Islamic law. It is believed that the holy scripture of the Koran was revealed to the prophet Muhammad by the Supreme Being specifically during Ramadan. It is not allowed to say spiteful things or use bad language during this time. Every Muslim should do good things and help those in need as much as possible. The holy month of Ramadan is believed to be a time for penance for sins, spiritual self-perfection, mercy and unity.

Absattar kazhi Derbisali, supreme mufti of Kazakhstan:
- Oraza and the Ramadan month save people from evil deeds and directs towards good ones. It helps people unite and become stronger. If we continue to be one family further, our country will be able to overcome all its trials and the crisis. The main thing is to avoid a crisis in our hearts. I wish all Muslims health and patience.
