KLIA2 to Accommodate Increase in Passenger Traffic
KUALA LUMPUR, July 16 (Bernama) -- The government's move to build the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) 2 is apt as it is intended to accommodate the rapid increase in passengers for low cost flights.
Deputy Transport Minister Abdul Rahim Bakri said the existing Low Cost Carrier Terminal (LCCT) could no longer meet increase in passenger flow and did not have room for expansion.
"The construction of KLIA2 will provide comfort to passengers with a bigger terminal floor space of 257,000 square metres which can accommodate up to 45 million passengers a year," he said in response to a question by Senator Syed Ibrahim Kader at the Senate on Monday.
Abdul Rahim said KLIA2 would be linked to the Express Rail Link (ERL) company's public transport service and would have a multi-storey car park to accommodate 6,000 vehicles.
