Malay World, Islamic World Organises Rohingya Solidarity Forum In London

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 24 (Bernama) - The 'For You, Rohingya' tour organised by Malay World, Islamic World (DMDI) continued with the Rohingya Solidarity Forum held at the Malaysian High Commission office in London on Jan 21. The forum was opened by the Malaysian High Commissioner to the United Kingdom (UK), Datuk Ahmad Rashidi Hazizi. Organised in collaboration with Serantau Muslim (Regional Muslim Welfare Organisation), the forum gathered 150 participants, including from the UK and France. Programme coordinator cum Serantau Muslim secretary Hakim Mohd Nor said the forum was held entirely in the Malay language to symbolise the importance of identity in the context of the Rohingya tragedy. "It is a continuation of the programme held in Kuala Lumpur and Jakarta. We are touring the world to raise awareness on the misery of our fellow Muslims in Rakhine, Myanmar," he said in a statement here, yesterday. Hakim, who was also a panel member said the Rohingya tragedy can only be stopped by demanding that Aung San Suu Kyi restore the Myanmar constitution to recognise the Rohingya as citizens. At the forum, DMDI chairman Tan Sri Mohd Ali Mohd Rustam launched a book titled 'Duka Rohingya di Bumi Arakan' (Rohingya Tragedy In Arakan Land) which tells about the persecution of the Rohingya and the minorities in Myanmar. Next stop is Sri Lanka in March. -- BERNAMA
