Malaysian Police Question Al Jazeera Reporter Over Documentary
KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 30 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian police have recorded a statement from an Al Jazeera reporter to assist the investigation into a documentary of the international television station last week on Malaysia allegedly being a hub for baby-selling activities.
Inspector-General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar said the police had never neglected their responsibility in investigating illegal activities, including smuggling of babies.
"The local female reporter extended good cooperation and the police understand why she made the documentary ... if necessary we will call up more individuals to help the investigation.
"I deny again that Malaysia is a hub for baby-selling activities ... we will never allow such activities," he said to reporters here Wednesday.
Khalid was asked to comment on the statement by Women, Family and Community Development Minister Rohani Abdul Karim on Tuesday that the police had summoned the production crew of Al Jazeera to verify the authenticity of its report.
He said the police would cooperate with the Women, Family and Community Development Ministry to determine whether any individuals were involved in the activity.
