Malaysia's Melaka State To Hold 13-Day 'Thai Malay Expo' From Jan 24
MELAKA (Malaysia), Jan 18 (Bernama) -- The Melaka state government will hold the 'Thai Malay Expo' at Dataran Restoran Melayu Melaka, here, for 13 days from Jan 24.
State Tourism and River, Beach and Islands Development Committee deputy chairman, Ghazale Muhamad said the expo jointly organised with Melaka River and Beach Development Corporation and Vinspire Sdn Bhd, would be from 10am to midnight for the duration.
He said 120 food and product entrepreneurs from Thailand, especially from five southern provinces - Narathiwat, Pattani, Yala, Songkhla and Satun - were expected to take part in the expo.
"The 'Thai Malay Expo' is the second Thai food and product fair to be held here. We are targeting 80,000 visitors from Melaka and outside the state to this 13-day expo."
Ghazale said this at a press conference, here, Tuesday with Melaka River and Beach Development Corporation chief executive officer Nazary Ahmad also present.
The first 'Thai Malay Expo' was held at the Melaka International Trade Centre, here, for seven days last October which drew about 40,000 visitors.
Ghazale said there would be six categories of Thai food and products, namely hot food, processed food and fruits, snacks, women's wear and accessories, household decorative items, and Islamic wear and accessories.
He said Thai and Malaysian cultural performances would be held nightly during the expo except on Jan 26 and Feb 2.
Ghazale said the organisers had been asked to remind the traders involved to sell their food and products at reasonable prices, adding that the expo was also aimed at strengthening ties between Thailand and Malaysia.
