Media Descended On Sepang IPD Over Jong-Nam's Suspected Killers
SEPANG (Selangor, Malaysia), Feb 17 (Bernama) -- Sepang police headquarters (IPD) here was a hive of activities with local and foreign media when it was learnt two foreign women have been nabbed over the murder of Kim Jong-nam, the estranged elder half-brother of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, on Monday.
A group of local media representatives who had earlier gathered at Sepang Court started moving to Sepang IPD at 7.30 am when words got out the remand proceedings would be conducted at the police building.
Sepang Magistrate Sharifah Muhaymin Abd Khalib, who was accompanied by an interpreter, was brought to the police headquarters in a patrol car at about 10.30 am to conduct the proceedings and left the place half an hour later.
However, members of the media were not allowed into Sepang IPD to witness the proceedings.
Selangor police chief Abdul Samah Mat, when contacted, confirmed the remand proceedings and said the two women involved were remanded for seven days starting Thursday.
According to media reports, a woman who was apprehended Wednesday over the murder of Jong-nam, was using a Vietnamese passport under the name 'Doan Thi Huong' while another woman who was held early Thursday, was using an Indonesian passport under the name of 'Siti Aishah'.
Foreign media groups and their crew members began gathering at the entrance of the police building at about noon after learning the remand took place here.
At about 1.20 pm, the two women were seen entering a police vehicle which later left the IPD compound.
About three hours later, three police vehicles were seen entering the Sepang police headquarters and the two suspects were brought out of the vehicle.
Media personnel, who have been waiting outside of the police building to catch a glimpse of the two women, were rewarded when the two suspects emerged from a car to enter the building.
One of the suspects was seen dressed in a yellow blouse while another was wearing a red dress.
Both suspects in handcuffs were believed to have left Sepang IPD at about 5 pm escorted by two patrol cars.
Earlier at about 4 pm, an Indonesian Embassy officer was seen entering the IPD in an embassy car.
The man wearing a batik shirt was seen leaving Sepang IPD at 4.45 pm and he managed to evade the media waiting outside.
The Indonesian Embassy was reported to have contacted Wisma Putra (Malaysian Foreign Ministry) to seek approval to meet the woman holding the country's passport and was currently under remand over Jong-nam's death.
