M'sia Chosen To Host 'Reviving The Islamic Spirit' Programme Due To Its Moderation Concept

PUTRAJAYA (Malaysia), March 9 (Bernama) -- Malaysia's moderate Islam, which is recognised by other Muslim countries, is one of the factors the country was chosen to host the programme "Reviving The Islamic Spirit" (RIS 2017), International Institute of Advanced Islamic Studies (IAIS) Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Prof Dr Mohamed Azam Mohamed Adil, said.
It was apt that RIS 2017 was held in Malaysia, which practised and promoted moderation, he said at a press conference recently in conjunction with RIS 2017, which was held at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre, here over the weekend.
The event, held for the first time in Malaysia, attracted more than 3,000 participants from all over the world.
Prof Dr Mohamed Azam said that RIS 2017 had discussed various topics including sprititual development through intellectual and motivational concept based on present time reality.
Meanwhile, Yayasan Dakwah Islam Malaysia (YADIM) President, Dr Yusri Mohamad, said that 40 per cent of the RIS 2017 participants were from foreign countries like Australia, Singapore, United Kingdom, Saudi Arabia, China, the Philippines, Vietnam, Sri Lanka, South Africa, Canada and the US.
RIS 2017, a religious programme themed "1400 Years of Clarity : Restoring Faith in the Modern Age", brought together world-renowned scholars and faith leaders. Each year the event attracted no less than 20,000 participants.
The speakers include Shaykh Hamza Yusuf, Imam Zaid Shakir, Ustaz Nouman Ali Khan, Dr Umar Faruq Abdallah, Imam Siraj Wahhaj, Shaykh Sulaiman Mulla, Shaykh Muhammad Ninowy, Imam Khalid Latif, Dawud Wharnsby Ali and Imam Afroz Ali.
During the occassion Minister in the Prime Minister's Department, Jamil Khir, presented a ceritificate of appreciation from the Malaysian Government to Rasheeda Ali, the daughter of legendary boxer the late Muhammad Ali, in recognition of her father's contribution in inspiring Muslims all over the world.
