M'sia Providing Jobs to Rohingya Refugees Praiseworthy - Amnesty

PETALING JAYA (Selnagor), Feb 22 (Bernama) -- Amnesty International Malaysia has applauded Malaysia's pioneer project in allowing Rohingya refugees in the country to work. Its executive director, Shamini Darshni Kaliemuthu said it was a positive development as refugees should be accorded the right to work. "Rohingnya refugees also need protection, healthcare and education access," she said at the launch of the Amnesty International Report 2016/17 here Wednesday. Deputy Prime Minister Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi recently announced Malaysia's plan to allow about 300 Rohingnya refugees holding the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees identification card to be legally employed beginning March 1, in plantation and manufacturing sectors. -- BERNAMA
