New Italian translation of Persian Rubaiyat of Khayyam unveiled in Florence

TEHRAN,Oct.30(MNA) -- A new Italian translation of the Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam, a Persian classical masterpiece by poet and mathematician Omar Khayyam (1048-1131), was unveiled during a special ceremony in Florence, Italy, last week. Iranian Ambassador Mohammad-Ali Hosseini, Tuscany region official Marco Carraresi and a number of Italian literati attended the ceremony held at the Tuscany governor-general’s office. Hafez Heidar has translated the Rubaiyat of Khayyam, which is mostly known to English-speaking readers through the translation of the collection of quatrains by the English writer Edward FitzGerald. There are five other Italian translations of the Rubaiyat of Khayyam. Francesco Gabrieli produced an Italian translation of the book in 1944 and Alessandro Bausani gave another translation in 1965.
