New Star-Rating System To Evaluate Quality Of Islamic Universities Worldwide

KUALA LUMPUR, April 27 (Bernama) -- A new star-rating system to evaluate the quality and achievement of Islamic universities worldwide will be introduced as a tool, among others, to improve their education quality. International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) Rector Prof Dr Zaleha Kamarudin said the system, in which its preparation was spearheaded by IIUM, was expected to begin its first evaluation's pilot test in September. She said approximately 320 Islamic universities under the Federation of Universities in the Islamic World, would be evaluated by a committee from 10 Islamic universities worldwide including IIUM. "The modules are ready...you can say that it is something we (IIUM) contributed to Islamic education,” she told reporters after presenting several awards for IIUM staff during its annual Quality Day, here Thursday. Dr Zaleha said the star-rating system was prepared differently from the QS World Education or Times Higher Education rankings, which were recognised worldwide in term of positioning top universities globally. “This is different from the ranking system. Under this system, we rate it with stars, with the most excellent achievement to be given six stars. “Universities receiving three stars will be assisted by those receiving four stars. So, the system will encourage each university to help each other to strive for excellence together,” she added. -- BERNAMA
