New Zealand, Malaysia Enhance Relationship Through Education

KUALA LUMPUR, March 23 (Bernama) -- New Zealand and Malaysia have partnered to provide holistic and affordable education to local students interested in pursuing an internationally recognised qualification. KYS International College Sdn Bhd (KYSIC) in partnership with eight New Zealand universities launched the new FCertNZ Foundation Programme to provide a chance for local high scorers to study in New Zealand. This programme allows students to pursue a Foundation Certificate by KYSIC locally at KYS Business School (KYSB) in Ayer Keroh, Melaka (a state located in the southern region of Peninsular Malaysia) before proceeding to a three-year or more undergraduate degree in New Zealand. KYSB chief executive officer Kamaruddin Awang said the new foundation programme aimed to widen as well as create better educational opportunities for Malaysian students. "Through this new partnership with the universities in New Zealand, we hope our students will continue to be exposed to high-quality education," he said during a speech at the programme’s launching ceremony at a hotel here Wednesday. Meanwhile, New Zealand High Commissioner John Subritzky in his keynote address highlighted how the education collaboration represented yet another significant milestone in the relationship between both countries. "Malaysia and New Zealand have long-standing educational ties since the Colombo Plan scholarships in the 1950s and 1960s. "Since the 1950s, New Zealand has been the choice of Malaysian students for our quality in attaining an internationally-recognised education," he said. -- BERNAMA
