Opening of monument to Kabanbai batyr

Taldykorgan, September 24, 2009 (Khabar) - Monument to Karakerei Kabanbai, legendary hero of struggle of Kazakh people against Jungar invasion has been opened in Taldykorgan. It is the eighth monument to the warrior on the territory of country. The festivity was continued with republican aitys, baiga and as dedicated to famous commander. The monument is set up on the bank of Karatal river and the warrior sits on the horse. The sculptors used famous monument of Peter the Great in St Petersburg as the basis for their work.

Seydahmet Shuregeev, president of social and cultural fund “Daraboz ":
- I had a dream from my childhood since I saw the monument of Peter the Great: "When Kazakhstan will have such a monument?" The dream turned into reality. We made the monument of bronze in Almaty plant. Its height 11,5 meters and weight of the monument is 5,5 tons.

People called the hero as Narbala, Daraboz, Kabanbai. The legend says the warrior received the last nickname after he killed wild boars with a spear and saved an entire village. His real name is Erasyl Kozhagululy. The warrior defended their homeland from invaders throughout his life. He also led the defense of Turkestan and Abylaikhan appointed him commander. Kabanbai took part in famous Anrakai battle, Bulaty and Shagan battles, freed Sairam, Tashkent and then lands of Eastern Kazakhstan. For almost forty years the warrior took part in one hundred and three major battles and won all of them. And he defeated over fifty best Jungar soldiers in personal duels. National writer Kabdesh Zhumadilov devoted the novel "Daraboz" to the warrior and it tells that Kabanbai died as befits a true warrior - in the saddle on his battle horse.

Kabdesh Zhumadilov, national writer:
- Kabanabi was not just a usual soldier. He was a commander and we can compare him with marshal Zhukov during Great Patriotic War. All of us knows about Zhukov. Kabanbai in Kazakh-Jungar war was like Zhukov in WWII. Kabanbai was the second person after Abylaikhan.

Horse races (baiga) and as were held in honor of Karakerei Kabanbai. Poets from all the regions of the country honored national heroes and glorified courage and love for homeland.
