The Peninsula Appreciates Qatar's Rapid Response to COVID-19 Pandemic

Doha, April 28 (QNA) - The Peninsula newspaper confirmed in its editorial on Wednesday that the State of Qatar has put in place effective isolation and quarantine measures for incoming travelers since the start of the pandemic, which helped control the first wave of the pandemic in the country last year. The newspaper appreciated the quick and successful response of the concerned authorities in Qatar when the second wave of the pandemic began in recent months after the emergence of COVID-19 variants, noting that the prompt response by the government to shut some non-essential services and restrict others helped in bringing down the new cases within weeks. The Peninsula said the Ministry of Public Health has revised the hotel quarantine policy for incoming travelers from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka and the Philippines after the authorities have tightened the quarantine requirements from these destinations after the emergence of new strains, adding that the new measures will help control COVID-19 in Qatar and help authorities ward off new variants of the viral infection. The newspaper pointed out that the daily count of the new cases fell below 700 on Tuesday for the first time since March 29,2021. The quarantine policy has helped the authorities limit the spread of the pandemic without hard border closures, the Peninsula explained. The newspaper concluded its editorial by emphasizing that precaution and prevention remain the best way to protect ourselves against the virus until the majority of the adult population will receive the vaccine.
