Perseverance Bears Fruit For 104 Medical Graduates In Egypt

By Muammar Eusouffi Zainol Abidin KUALA LUMPUR, March 22 (Bernama) -- Perseverance paid off for 104 Malaysian medical graduates of the Al-Azhar University in Egypt when they received their scrolls at its convocation last Saturday. The graduates, comprising 34 males and 70 females, had successfully completed almost seven years of studies after going through the political upheaval in Egypt in 2013. Education Malaysia/Egypt acting Adviser Minister Ahmad Zakuan Md Khudzari described the success story as "sweet achievement" as it proved the ability of Malaysians in the field of medicine. "This batch of graduates comprise those (former) students who were evacuated during the Egyptian revolution in 2013...the Malaysian Government brought home all Malaysians, including the students (at that time)," he told Bernama via WhatsApp application here. Ahmad Zakuan said the students then returned to Egypt after three months to continue their studies. Also present at the convocation ceremony were Malaysian Embassy in Cairo head of chancery Shahabudeen Adam Shah and Al-Azhar University president Dr Ahmad Husni. Meanwhile, the Best Overall Female Student Award recipient, Salehah Ariffin said the varsity had taught the students about friendship, hardship, teamwork, commitment and determination. "Today, we receive a new career as medical doctors and this marks a new chapter in our lives," she said at the ceremony. The text of her speech was sent to Bernama. -- BERNAMA
