PM Najib Congratulates Expedition Members For Reaching Annapurna Base Camp

KUALA LUMPUR, May 2 (Bernama) -- Najib Razak Tuesday congratulated 62 media practitioners and members and officials of the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department for the success in reaching the Annapurna Base Camp (ABC), Nepal on Sunday. "Alhamdulillah (Praise be to Allah), the media members, @bombaJBPM & staf @KKMPutrajaya succeeded in arriving at the Annapurna Base Camp & raised the Malaysian flag. Congratulations!," the Prime Minister said in his Twitter entry. All the participants arrived at ABC safely at 2 pm local time (Sunday) and were ‘greeted’ by snow. They raised a giant sized Jalur Gemilang measuring 6 x 12 metres and weighing 11 kilogrammes besides singing the national anthem ‘Negaraku’ and Jalur Gemilang after climbing to ABC located at a height of 4,130 metres. The expedition members comprise 31 media practitioners and 21 members and officers from the Fire and Rescue Department, five representatives from the Health Ministry and five others representing the youths. The expedition began the climb last Thursday. The expedition will create history in the Malaysia Book of Records for the category with the most number of participants from Malaysia to have reached ABC. --BERNAMA
