President Mugabe criticizes unjust sanctions on Iran

Tehran, Aug 31, IRNA – Visiting President Robert Mugabe of Zimbabwe said on Friday that imposing sanctions against Iran under the pretext of its peaceful nuclear activities was an unjust act. Addressing the second day of the 16th Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), President Mugabe said it was strange that those who showed maximum opposition to Iran's peaceful nuclear program possess nuclear weapons themselves. The president expressed concern about the current situation in international community and said that inadequate administration of the global affairs made the world public opinion pessimistic about the world's governance structure. Referring to the NAM as the second largest and important international body after the United Nations, President Mugabe said members of the NAM could use the body's collective power to create a new system for international relations based on justice, mutual respect, peaceful co-existence and non-interference in internal affairs of other countries The Zimbabwean president urged NAM countries to pursue its major principles including global peace and social as well as economic progress. Criticizing big powers unilateralism under the pretext of humanitarian interference in affairs of other nations, President Mugabe said those moves should be condemned as they have become a source of concern worldwide.
