President of RK lights up New Year’s tree in Astana
Astana, December 02, 2009, Khabar – Nursultan Nazarbayev has taken part in the official ceremony of lighting up a New Year’s tree in Kazakhstan. The tree was established on the central square of the capital city in front of the presidential residence.
Almagul Akmysheva:
- Astana has turned into a true New Year fairytale. It is very beautiful here. I’m happy that I had the chance to attend this lighting up ceremony so I’m overwhelmed.
Alexander Piutlin:
- I think any child in the country would love to come here and see the main New Year’s tree of the entire country. Words cannot adequately convey my feelings. New Years Day is my favourite holiday so this tree is a great present.
Asiya Tynyshbayeva:
- When you see people smiling your mood automatically changes for the better. Nobody expected to witness such a grand celebration. Look at this tree, it’s so beautiful, bright and big!
Asel Kubigenova:
- The president himself has lit up the main New Year’s tree of the country. I’m very happy that I’m here. I think all young Kazakh people are dreaming of being in my shoes right now.
New Year is a holiday of new hopes and plans for the future as regardless of people’s age a bit of belief in the New Year’s miracle lives in everyone.

Every centre of population in Kazakhstan changes it looks every December, especially the capital city of the republic. This year is no exception. The municipal administration promised that the look of the festively decorated capital alone will put people in good spirits.
